Saint-Gobain and Georg Fischer Combine Forces with RHFS to Offer IR Fusion PFA Piping
System
Responding to semiconductor industry needs for an improved fusion technology for
joining High Purity PFA piping systems, Saint-Gobain Microelectronics has entered
into an agreement with Georg Fischer, Inc. to provide the PFA FuseBond® System.
The new system combines Furon® PFA piping with Georg Fischer's IR Plus®
Infrared Joining Technology to provide the industry with a weldable PFA piping and
fusion package from one source. RHFS is the only national U.S. distributor offering
both Saint-Gobain and Georg Fischer High-Purity products. The PFA FuseBond System
features repeatable high-strength PFA welds, low weld bead profile, and documentation
of all welding parameters. Ideally suited for high purity chemical and abrasive
slurry applications in the semiconductor market.
The PFA FuseBond System is offered in pipe, fittings,
and a complete line of manual and pneumatically actuated valves in sizes from 1/4-inch
through 2-inch. Fittings include alignment marks at 45-degree angles for perfect
alignment. "The new PFA FuseBond System addresses common industry problems of high
variability in weld strength and appearance by providing customers with a reliable
system that yields repeatable welds that are traceable." said Greg Sallee, Saint-Gobain
Microelectronics Operation Manager.
The FuseBond System incorporates Georg Fischer's IR
Plus fusion joining technology, which uses IR radiant heat to fuse the pipe and
fitting together. This technology prevents the pipe from touching the heating surface,
resulting in a pure, non-contaminated product and a smaller uniform weld bead. The
system incorporates a computerized program which directs the operator at each step
of the joining process, including facing, heating, time, temperature, cleaning,
and joining distance, minimizing the chance of error and providing greater repeatability.
The system also provides a written document of all welding parameters.
Offered with the new FuseBond package is Georg Fischer's
nationally accredited fusion training program. This comprehensive program includes
hands on fusion training and certification, and theoretical and practical training
in IR weld inspection.
Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics also provides innovative
solutions utilizing a complete product line of pumps, valves, fittings, integrated
manifolds and high-purity tubing. For further information on the FuseBond system
or IR Fusion Training, call your local RHFS Service Center for more detail at 1.800.848.1141.

High Purity Low Flow Measurement
Low flow measurement has always been a challenge in High-Purity applications. A
new flow range configuration has just been added by McMillan Company in the 6.0
- 50.0 ml/min unit to enable accurate and reliable measurement of dramatically lower
flow rates.
The Model U707/708 FLO-SENSOR® is a small footprint
PTFE unit designed for Ultra High Purity (UHP) and corrosive chemicals in critical
applications. McMillan's patented micro-turbine technology is used to produce accurate
and repeatable results with no particle generation. Flow ranges from 6.0 - 50.0
ml/min up to 1.0 - 10.0 l/min are available with a range of fitting sizes and electrical
outputs.
PTFE, Perfluoroelstomer and Sapphire wetted parts
ensure compatibility with many chemicals including Deionised Water, acids, solvents,
CMP slurries and Photoresist developers.
The Model U707/708 integrates the sensing element
with advanced electronics to provide output signals proportional to flow rate. Each
unit is individually calibrated before shipment and supplied with a calibration
certificate. A repeatability specification of 30.2% full scale on most ranges reassures
process engineers of consistent results.
